Jobs In The Games Industry

Animation:

Animator (General)
Animators do the bulk of animating in the games industry. It is a both, technical and creative roll involving the animator to use imagination when creating the animations, be it for characters, weapons, foliage, vehicles etc. There is also the technical side to being an animator where game engines, software and calculations are involved. The general animators job is to also work with graphs to ensure that the animation is smooth and fluid.
Technical Animator
Technical animators are dedicated to the technical aspect of animation ensuring all animations are as intended to be and compatible with the desired game engine. Technical animators also iron out any bugs or kinks within an animation. This makes sure that an animation is a good quality before entering the game engine, essentially like a dedicated animation QA.

Art

Artist (General)
Artists work on a broad range of work, this would include but not limited to, texturing, height map/other detail map creation, concept art, lighting and mood setting. An artist must have an eye and experience to do such things.
Concept Artist
Freelance artists are often but not always temporarily hired to work on games, this is most common with concept artists as it is preferred to get fresh ideas from a broad range of people. Concept artists must be able to offer interpretations on ideas and then develop them into a artistic media in which modellers or other artists can work from. Concept art can range from Lego mock ups to multi media art on a canvas. The concept artist is the most creative job on any dev team, this is because concept artists work on the foundations of the game and if they did a bad job the whole game could end up in disaster.
SFX Artist
Special effects artists work on making a broad range of visual effects in all parts of a game. An example would be a particle effect, particle effects are everywhere like falling leaves, muzzle flashes, fire, sparks, portals, smoke. Almost any animated effect is handled by special effect artists. SFX artists also work on post production editing, touching up lighting and adding filters. Special effects artists also play a big role in the creation of trailers for video games and making it presentable during the early stages of production.

Modelling

Modeller
modellers make up large portions of the games industry as most of games in the 21st century are 3D and so the demand for modellers is always high. Modellers do almost everything in the aspect of 3D, from UV mapping to creating the 3D model itself. Due to modern technology, jobs that work on realistic and naturalistic models are slowly being phased out. This is because technologies such as 3D scanners are reducing the need for people to make 3D models of things such as boulders, and instead, put a digital scan of the boulder, removing the need for people to model them. With this, there is still the drawback that fantasy objects cannot be scanned in, and so there will always be some need for modellers in the games industry.

Production

Producer
Producers are a constant in the work pipeline when creating video games. Producers will assure all work is done to the same standard. All art is consistent. And determine weather an idea is good/bad, or even affordable. With all of these in mind. The producer is agreed to be one of the most important jobs when making video games, movies and even music.

Coding

Coder
Coders work making the fundamental functionality of a video game. While having relatively little creative input. They are the backbone of any development team. This is because a coder writes all of the games functions, algorithms and mechanics. Coders give video games their gameplay and so this is why they are one of the most important roles in a development team.
Debugger
Debuggers are familiar with a broad range of syntaxes and make sure all code runs smooth without any bugs, data leaks or unnecessary code. While they may not do a broad range of tasks, their dedicated work to making sure the game runs smoothly is vital to any dev team.
